Jalisco was discovered near the Pacific Ocean in Mexico by Jake Oncid. It’s a unique Mexican landrace variety and one of the genetic parents of the Nec’D hybrid (crossed with Panaeolus tropicalis Australia). The pins emerge with a warm amber glow and evolve into a honey vanilla hue as they mature. When fully grown, the fruits look like mini sunflowers with their ruffled caps and defined golden centers. Jalisco also produces beautiful, near perfectly symmetrical mycelium that is slightly transparent on agar and grain.

Genus: Panaeolus
Species: P. cyanescens (aka Pan cyan, Copelandia, Blue Meanie)
Strain Origin: Jalisco, Mexico (Pacific Coast). Wild find by Jake Oncid.
Climate: Tropical and subtropical
Habitat: Thrives in nutrient-rich soil, commonly found in pastures, grasslands, and areas fertilized by livestock manure.
Temp: 77°–83°F (25–28°C)
Relative Humidity: 86%–94%
Cap: Medium-sized (2–5 cm diameter), initially conic before expanding into a broad bell shape. Exhibits a significant color transition (hygrophanous) from amber-gold to honey-vanilla, retaining a saturated golden center. The most distinct feature is the highly undulate or ruffled margin that develops as the cap reaches full expansion.
Stem: Sturdy and slender, typically ranging from 8–13 cm long. Pale cream to white in color, and easily bruises blue when handled.
Gills: Adnate (attached directly to the stem) and very tightly packed. They transition from a charcoal grey to a deep, jet black as the spores mature.
Spores: Jet black, smooth, and elliptical. Jalisco is a prolific sporulator, typically leaving a heavy dusting of spores on the ruffled cap margins and neighboring fruit at maturity.
Growth Characteristics: Mycelium is thin and semi-translucent on both agar and grains. Fruit have a beautiful sunflower morphology. More delicate than other varieties, I’d describe it’s difficulty level as intermediate.
Notes: Thrives in environments with stable temperatures, balanced humidity, and consistent airflow.
Potency: Psilocybin content typically ranges between 2%–4%.
