Named after the Zapotec people of Oaxaca, Mexico, Psilocybe zapotecorum is a highly respected species that has been used in spiritual ceremonies for centuries. It’s considered a powerful tool to communicate with the gods and to access spiritual wisdom.

The La Martinica lineage was found in Veracruz, under oak in a grassy area not far from a river by Alan Rockefeller and Jordan Jacobs.

Product Description

Genus: Psilocyb

Species: P. zapotecorum (Zap, Zapotec Magic Mushroom)

Strain Origin: Discovered in Veracruz, Mexico by Alan Rockefeller and Jordan Jacobs

Climate: Subtropical to temperate highlands. Prefers mild temperatures and higher elevation environments.

Habitat: Naturally grows in shaded, mossy areas, leaf litter, and decomposing woody debris — typically in mountainous regions.

Temp: 65°–75°F (18–24°C)

Relative Humidity: 90%–98%

Cap: Medium-sized caps (2–5 cm), initially rounded and maturing to broadly convex or slightly wavy. Typically chestnut brown to tan, fading to pale cream with maturity (hygrophanous). Bruises distinctly blue.

Stem: Firm and moderately thick, off-white to pale tan, sometimes with subtle fibrils. Shows pronounced blue bruising when handled.

Gills: Medium spaced, initially pale, turning dark purple-brown to blackish as spores mature. Gills are directly attached or slightly adnexed to the stem.

Spores: Dark purplish-brown, elliptical, and smooth. Spores mature quickly, forming dense, dark prints. Basidia are typically four-spored (tetrasporic).

Growth Characteristics: Soft white mycelium similar to Panaeolus. Colonizes moderately fast but fruits slowly and steadily. 

Notes: Thrives in cooler conditions with high humidity, indirect light, and gentle airflow. 

Potency: Limited data, but psilocybin typically tests in the ~2% range.
